The following Amendments to the CKC By-Laws (passed by the membership in the 2008 referendum ballot) were approved by the Minister of Agriculture.

These changes will be posted to the CKC website and members may request a hard copy  free of charge by  contacting the CKC order desk and asking for same.

MEMBERSHIP

Section 7.4 APPROVAL OF MEMBERSHIP has been deleted because there is no reason to wait 60 days to approve membership given that there is no objection procedure.

 QUORUM

Sections 9.8 NO QUORUM and 10.4 QUORUM have been amended and 10.5 LOST QUORUM has been deleted.  As a result the Board can now meet and make decisions without regional representation; duplication between Sections 9.8 and 10.5 has been removed while specifying that if quorum is lost during an election year, business continues until the next elections are held; and, by-elections may be held to restore quorum when a quorum is lost in a year other than an election year.

 NOMINATIONS

12.9        NO NOMINATION IN AN ELECTORAL ZONE has been amended making it clear that an office cannot be left vacant because “write-in ballots” are allowed.

 REGISTRATION

26.6        IDENTIFICATION BY MICROCHIP TRANSPONDER IMPLANT, subsection (b) has been deleted and subsections (c) and (d) have been amended to reflect that when the owner at birth signs the application for registration, this signifies that the information is true and correct.

28.6       AGE has been deleted because the Club has dispensed with the requirement of affidavits in favour of accepting members’ signatures and, furthermore, the concern for breeding or using very young or senior dogs is better addressed in the CKC Code of Practice for CKC Member Breeders.

29.10      NAMES, subsection (g) has been amended to give the Club authority to reject applications that contain inappropriate dog names choices.

30.5        IMPORTATION OF CANADIAN-BORN DOG FROM FOREIGN COUNTRY, subsection (c) has been amended to allow for copies of registration certificates instead of having to submit original documents.

32.1        A GENEALOGICAL TABLE has been re-named PEDIGREES for the sake of clarity and the wording has been amended to make it clear that the registered name and number of all dogs in the ancestral line appear in the pedigree.

32.2        THREE GENERATION PEDIGREE has been deleted because the Club issues four generation pedigrees as well as three and, furthermore, the amendment to the wording of Section 32.1 clarifies that pedigrees include the registered name and number of all dogs in the ancestral line.

 REFERENDUMS

36.1        AMENDMENT BY REFERENDUM has been amended so that By-laws may be amended by a majority affirmative vote rather than a two-thirds majority (66 2/3 percent) affirmative vote.
